Whats In a NAME?

I, along with a very large number of talented doll artist, participated in the ART DOLLS ONLY art doll challenge last weekend. We were to make dolls that represented one of or all of the four elements: FIRE, AIR, WATER, and EARTH! and post pictures of them on our blogs for all to appreciate. ADO members and non members were invited to take part at http://artdollsonly.blogspot.com/ in this challenge. The blogs are still posted if you want to pop over and take a look... http://artdollsonly.blogspot.com/ While blog hopping and taking in all the creativity, one of the artist asked that we suggest a name for her doll which very artistically portrays all four elements. I suggested FAWEN...fire, air, water, earth ... nature! She chose my idea and gifted me with one of her wonderful hand-painted prints and a handmade "Mummy"! He is cherished! Thank you very much Stephanie! They are gorgeous gifts. Want to check out this artist...just click on the title - Whats in a name?

ADO DOLL CHALLENGE

ADO ELEMENTS CHALLENGE and .... Here is my challenge doll . . . F*I*R*E . . .

Although I've been making dolls off and on all of my life; this is my first time attempting an "ART" doll....to be honest, I had to surf the net to figure out what an ART doll is . . . Looks like anything I make is an art doll as dolls made of any material are considered art! Red is my favorite color so there was no decision making regarding the element to choose. How does one represent fire? I decided with my limited time and stash, that the angelina would make the fire....alas no red angelina...voila! white and fuschia....well I hope that you get the idea. I used Deanna Hogan's Averil doll pattern to make the jointed body....it was a first time use and the body went together very easily. Then I selected a group of oranges, reds, and yellows and crazy sewed strips to a calico fabric. The arms, legs, feet, and hands were made from each of the six fabrics.... She was a joy to work on....
Thank you for the challenge!
